John F KennedyPerhaps one of the most difficult decades to become president was the 1960s. Many tensions had arisen since the end of World War II only fifteen years previous, America was locked in a "cold war" between communist countries like Russia (the Soviet Union), a "hot war" had been fought in Korea only seven years previous, and they were trying to prove to the world that they were a super power to reckon with.
Amongst all of this turmoil and fear about the future a young man by the name of John F Kennedy was elected as president. He brought with him not only hope that life could be better but that the future was going to be bright. He embodied the American dream and charmed all that followed him. |

THEN
Watch the video of the speech being delivered to look for elements of non-verbal language (gesture, body language and facial expression) and oracy (pace, pause, tone and emphasis).
ACTIVITY
Create a list of the non-verbal language (body language, gestures, facial expressions etc) that Kennedy uses throughout the delivery of his speech. Next to each of the non-verbal language techniques you have identified, find THREE quotes from the written text that Kennedy aligns to a particular movement or expression. Next to that, write the effect.
ACTIVITY
Copy and paste the speech into wordle or tagxedo to create a word cloud of his speech. You'll see quite quickly the particular words he has repeated throughout the speech. Save the image, place it in your OneNote book and
underneath it choose the FIVE biggest words (most noticeable from your word cloud). Next to each of the words you chose provide its dictionary definition and some possible reasons why Kennedy may have chosen that particular word to repeat (its effect and purpose).
